Internship Diaries of The Entry-Level Explorer
If you are a student who wants to dive into a new field but isn’t sure where to start, you are an Entry-Level Explorer. This theme is about Barriers to Entry & Accessibility. You don’t need a flawless portfolio or years of coding experience to get started; you just need curiosity. These programs are designed as "on-ramps," offering a low-risk, high-reward way to test the waters of art, technology, or fashion without the pressure of a high-stakes application or a massive tuition bill.
Why choose an "Explorer" program as a high schooler?
Summer is the best time to fail fast and learn what you actually love. High-level, specialized programs are great once you’ve committed to a path, but "Explorer" programs allow you to sample different industries to see if they fit your personality. These opportunities prioritize inclusivity and curiosity over pre-existing technical skill. By participating, you build a foundation of "hard skills" in a supportive environment, proving to colleges that you are proactive about your personal growth and unafraid to step outside your comfort zone.
Here are 3 top opportunities for the Entry-Level Explorer.

You’ll spend your time developing pieces for a professional portfolio, collaborating on community-based projects, and experiencing life on a college campus.
